At night, Barmarche goes into bar mode, with inevitable spillover from the narrow space onto the streets, but if you start your night here early enough, you might be able to have an actual conversation with a date or friend. Weekend brunch here is representative of brunch in any other hip New York City neighborhood bistro; a loud, crowded scene with a good, reasonably-priced but generic menu. Expect well-prepared but unsurprising eggs, pancakes, sandwiches and burgers ($9-$13). Dinner goes a bit more upscale, with a New American menu tinged by global influences, whether French (duck confit salad), South American (crispy bass tacquitos) or Italian (truffle shrimp risotto).
