A proper Greek Tavern in midtown, Molyvos falls somewhere in between the expense account headiness of Milos Estuatario and ubiquitous greasy slouvaki joints. It’s still not an obvious choice for the theatre-goer (too far), after-work dinner (too Hell’s Kitchen) or tourist (too non- Columbus Circle). Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, Molyvos is currently undergoing a renovation of its warm and traditional taverna décor and plans on unrolling its new look this fall. Its menu should not change much, having attracted loyal diners with such classics as whole fish, grilled octopus Greek spreads with homemade pita, moussaka and syrup drenched almond cakes. Pre-theater, lunch and meze menus are available.

The Livanos family own and manage not only Molyvos but upscale seafood eatery Oceana and Italian newcomer Abboccato, all in midtown, so it is foreseeable that Molyvos morph into something less ethnic and more sleek.
